Mk 10:13-31

  • Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them
    • Today I signed up Gege at a preschool at a local community church; their motto is 'Enter to know Christ, leave to show Christ'; Jesus want the children (no matter how young) to come to him;
  • Jesus took the children in his arms and blessed them
    • I hold my children in my arms a lot lately, especially Meimei, so Jesus' gesture connects to me in a special way; he loves the children and wanted no hindrance or distance between them;
  • One thing you lack (v21)
    • the rich young man has
      • money
      • youth
      • desire to come to Christ
      • obeyed the commandments
    • but he still lacked one thing; what is that he lacked?
      • the treasure in heaven?
      • apparently Jesus saw his earthly fortune as dispensable and even hindrance;
      • he left -> that's what he lacked--he lacked the willing heart to let go of his earthly fortune;
      • But Jesus' challenge to the man was great:
        • sell everything (the man had great wealth--and probably partly inherited)
        • give all to the poor
        • follow Jesus
    • How hard it is for the rich to enter the kingdom of God!
    • All things are possible with God
    • A hundred times in return
      • in fact, if the rich young man did what Jesus told him, he will have these in return; this is what he didn't see; he also lack the faith in Jesus.
