- The Communion
- bread -> this is my body
- cup -> this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many
- As recorded in the Book of Matthew, they sang a hymn together (v26)
- Peter was so sure he would never fall away
- Even if all fall away, I will not (v29)
- Even if I have to die with you, I will never disown you (v31)
- The rest were the same (v31b)
- However, Jesus predicts that Peter would disown him 3 times
- today--yes, tonight--before the rooster crows twice you yourself will disown me three times
- At Gethsemane
- Jesus became deeply distressed and troubled (v33)
- My soul is overwhelmed with sorrow to the point of death (v34)
- Jesus fell to the ground and prayed that if possible the hour might pass from him (v35)
- Abba, Father, everything is possible for you. Take this cup from me. Yet not what I will, but what you will. (v36)
- Disciples fell asleep;
- The spirit is willing, but the body is weak (v38)
- After three times Jesus prayed and returned and found the disciples sleeping, he said, 'the hour has come...Here comes my betrayer.'
- Jesus arrested
