Lk 4:1-30

  • v1 - Jesus let by the Spirit in the desert;
  • Devil's temptations
    1. If you are the Son of God, tell this stone to become bread (v3)
    2. I will give you all their authority and splendor, for it has been given to me, and I can give it to anyone I want to. So if you worship me, it will all be yours (v6-7)
    3. If you are the Son of God, throw yourself down from here... (v9-11)
  • Jesus' replies:
    1. It is written: 'Man does not live on bread alone (Deut 8:3)' (v4)
    2. It is written: 'Worship the Lord your God and serve him only (Deut 6:13)' (v8)
    3. It says: 'Do not put the Lord your God to the test (Deut :16)' (v12)
  • v14 - Jesus first returned to Nazareth, where he had been brought up (v16)

    • Elisha
      • who healed Syrian general Naaman, not none in Israel
  • -> no prophet is accepted in his hometown (v24)
  • the people were so furious that they wanted to throw him down the cliff (v29)
  • but Jesus walked right through the crowd and left (v30)
