    • not made known to men in other generations

Gal 5:13-26

  • freed but in control; serve
  • the entire law summed up in one: Love your neighbor as yourself;
  • Spirit vs. the "sinful nature"
    • they oppose each other
    • mutually exclusive
    • we probably cannot get rid of our sinful nature all together, but we can counter it with the Spirit--if and when we live by the Spirit;
    • live by the Spirit -> keep in step with the Spirit (v25);
      • on a cross-road: follow our "feelings" or the Spirit?
  • the "fruit" of the Spirit (LJ-PPK-GFGS):
    • Love
    • Joy
    • Peace
    • Patience
    • Kindness
    • Goodness
    • Faithfulness
    • Gentleness
    • Self-control
  • crucify the "sinful nature" + its passions and desires;

Gal 1

  • there were problems with "other gospel"
    • which is no gospel at all;
  • Paul spoke of how God has led him to serve
    • trying to establish the gospel is revelation from Jesus directly;
  • v15: set me apart/separated
    • ἀφορίζω (G837)
      • 3 interesting uses:
        • at birth (Gal 1:15) - separated from mother's womb;
        • to follow Christ (Rom 1:1) - separated from old way of living;
        • for his own calling (Acts 13:2) - separated from others with different callings;

2 Cor 9

  • service to the saints
    • Paul meant the gifts
      • from Achaians to the Macedonians
  • Paul sent several co-workers to the churches in Corinth
    • to make final arrangements of the gifts
    • for he didn't want them unprepared when he arrives with anyone from Macedon
    • this is how thoughtful he was as a leader
      • think in advance (always anticipate)
      • take preventive measures to avoid undesirable outcome
  • give according to what's decided in ones heart
    • not reluctantly
    • not under compulsion
    • God loves a cheerful giver
      • same with a servant
        • God loves a cheerful servant
        • not reluctantly
        • not under compulsion
  • rich in every way -> give generously on every occasion
    • blessed to bless
    • saved to serve
    • received freely, and to freely give
      • some things aren't, but salvation certainly is;
