- Jesus calms the storm
- he commands even the winds and the water, and they obey him (v25b)
- in Chinese culture, winds and water has a special meaning (Feng Shui); I'm not an expert of it, but from what I know it has a Taoism root and is often associated with Mysticism, astrology, and false gods; some would like to brand it as a science of the nature; it can certainly control a person's mind (e.g. it might command you to put the bed a certain way to avoid harm);
- but here we see Jesus commands the winds and the water, it reminds me that Jesus has the ultimate control, and the wind and the water obey him!
- Jesus casts out demon
- the person was repeatedly possessed by the same demon (v29);
- the demon recognizes Jesus and is afraid of him (v28);
- identify the evil spirit, 'What's your name?'
- Legion, for they are many
- from the context, it has been referred to as both single and plural;
- let them go into the herd of pigs;
- people at Gerasenes were overcome with fear and asked Jesus to leave them
- why? it's strange that their response echoes that of the demon (v28)
- not the man healed by Jesus, he asked Jesus to stay;
