  • Paul instructed Titus how to teach;
  • say "No" to
    • ungodliness
    • worldly passions
  • we need to separate our worldly passions from the godly ones, and say "No" to the former;
  • Soundness:
    • in doctrine (v1) to teach;
    • in faith (v2) for older men;
    • of speech (v8) in your teaching;
  • Self-control:
    • to older men (v2);
    • to younger women (v4);
    • to young men (v6);
    • God's teaching (v12);
  • integrity/upright:
    • in your teaching (v7);
    • God's teaching (v12);
  • subject:
    • wives to their husbands (v5);
    • slaves to their masters in everything (v9);
  • pure:
    • younger women (v5);
    • Jesus purified us to be his people (v14);

    • able to teach
    • no drunkenness
    • gentle
    • not quarrelsome

    • must manage his own family well
    • must not be a recent convert
    • have good reputation with outsiders
  • Deacons
    • respectable
    • sincere
    • not indulging in much wine
    • not pursuing dishonest gain
    • keep hold of deep truth of faith
    • with clear conscience
    • must be tested first

    • Continually pray;
    • In all circumstances give thanks;

  • God's will:
    • be sanctified
      • avoid sexual immoralities;
      • control his own body (or live with his own wife);
        • in a way that is holy and honorable
        • not in passionate lust
      • no one should wrong or take advantage of others
  • God called us to live a holy life;
  • try to:
    • lead a quiet life;
    • mind your own business;
    • work with your own hands;
  • results->win the respects of others and be independent;
  • meet the Lord in the air (v17);
  • the day of the Lord-> like a thief in the night;

  • apart in person, but not in thought (v17);
  • stopped by Satan
    • what could it be? Illness? Weather? Financial? (probably some opposition-- distress, persecution 2:7)
    • sometimes Gods stops us from doing things, too. What's the difference?
  • sent Timothy to them instead, and he came back with good news (vv2&6);
    • faith, love, and prayers;
  • destined for trials (v3);
  • Paul's worry -> unsettled by trials (v3); Timothy's good news -> stood firm in the Lord;
  • love to increase and overflow!
