Acts 18:23-19:12

  • Paul began his 3rd missionary trip
    • Apollos at Ephesus
      • a Jew born in Alexandria
      • he was learned and knowledgeable of the scripture
      • spoke with great fervor
      • knew only baptism of John
    • Priscilla and Aquila invited him home and explained the way of God
    • Apollos went to Achaia to
      • debate with the Jews and refuted them
      • proving from the scripture that Jesus was the Christ
  • When Apollos was in Corinth, Paul arrived at Ephesus
    • he noticed that the disciples had not received the Holy Spirit
    • Paul baptized them again in the name of Jesus
    • Paul placed his hands on them
      • the Holy Spirit came on them
      • the spoke in tongues and prophesied
      • there were 12 of them
    • for 3 months Paul preached in the synagogue
      • then some became obstinate and maligned the Way
      • so Paul left them and went to lecture in the hall of Tyrannus
    • for 2 years he preached in Achaia
      • to both Jews and Gentiles
