- Peter's 2nd and 3rd Denials
- to avoid ceremonial uncleanness the Jews did not enter Pilate's palace
- so Pilate came out to them
- the Jews did not have the right to execute anyone
- but their intent was to have Jesus killed
- Pilate heard Jesus
- are you the king of the Jews
- is that your own idea or something you heard?
- I'm not a Jew, but your people sent you to me, what have you done?
- my kingdom is not of this world, but from another place
- you are a king then
- you're right; that's why I was born and came to this world--to testify the truth
- what is truth? (Pilate walked out, not intended for an answer)
- Pilate offered the Jews the release of either Jesus or Barabbas
- the crowd chose Barabbas
- the soldiers put a crown of thorns on Jesus' head
- they stuck him in the face
- they put on him a purple robe
- Pilate wanted to hear Jesus again
- where do you come from?
- Don't you realize I have power either to free you or to crucify you?
- the power is from above
- the one who handed me over to you is guilty of a greater sin
- Pilate wanted to set Jesus free, but the Jews objected
- if you let him go, you're no friend of Caesar
- we have no king but Caesar (the chief priests)
- notice from Pilate
- JESUS OF NAZARETH, THE KING OF THE JEWS
- written in
- Aramaic,
- Latin and
- Greek
- the Jews asked for a modification (self claimed), but Pilate refused
