Mt 27:15-31

  • vv15-26: Jesus Before Pilate (contiued)
    • v15: amnesty during the feast
    • v17: Pilate offered the crowd a choice: Jesus or Barabbas (Mk 15:7, Lk 23:19)
    • v18: envy?! the high priests and elders are envious of Jesus' power and influence? Or is it something else?
    • v19: Pilate's wife sent the message to plead for Jesus
    • vv22-23: those who yelled 'crucify him' what do they have against Jesus? Must be coming from the persuasion of the chief priests and elders (v20). They didn't know what they were doing.
    • v25: on us and on our children
  • vv27-31: The Soldiers Mock Jesus
    • v28: they put on Jesus:
      • a scarlet robe
      • crown of throns
      • a staff in his right hand
    • vv29-30: they also -
      • knelt in front of him and mocked him
      • 'Hail, king of the Jews'
      • spit on him
      • repeatedly struck him on his head with the staff
    • the humiliation is unbearable; I'd like to hit the 'Fast Forward' button on these scenes; But Jesus endure it all--every single second of it--for us;
