Mt 25:31-26:13

Meimei slept through the night last night! And she was able to sustain sitting for quite some time.
  • vv 25:31-46: The Sheep and the Goats
    • Son of Man comes sitting on his throne in heavenly glory;
    • separate the people as shepherd separates sheep and goats
      • to the sheep on the right:
        • come, you who are blessed by my Father
        • take your inheritance
        • when I was (vv35-36):
          • hungry -> you feed me
          • thirsty -> you gave me drink
          • a stranger -> you invited me in
          • in need of clothes -> you clothed me
          • sick -> you look after me
          • in prison -> came to visit me
        • whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers of mine, you did for me (v40); and vice versa (v45);
        • go to eternal life (v46b)
      • to the goats to hte left:
        • depart from me, you who are cursed,
        • into the eternal fire
          • prepared for the evil and his angels
        • you didn't perform any of acts as the sheep on the right (vv42-43);
        • go to eternal punishment (v46a);
    • 26:1-5: The Plot Against Jesus
      • v2: Passover is 2 days away; passover begins at sundown on Friday, so at this time it should be in Wednesday;
      • v2: Jesus knew his time has come;
      • v3: meanwhile at the home of Caiaphas the high priest, a meeting was going on among the chief priests and the elders of the people;
      • v4: they are plotting a sly way to arrest Jesus and kill him;
      • v5: afraid of a riot, they decided not during the Feast (of Unleavened Bread--on Thursday, see v17);
    • vv6-13: Jesus Anointed at Bethany (see also Jn 12:1-8):
      • v6: the place- in the home of Simon the Leper at Bethany (not Jeruselem); Bethany is where Jesus raised Lazarus from the dead (Jn 12:1);
      • v7: a woman (Mary the sister of Lazarus, Jn12:3) poured a jar of very expensive perfume on Jesus' head;
      • v8: the disciple (Judas, Jn 12:4) said it was a waste and the perfume could have been sold and the money (worth a year's wage, Jn 12:5) can be given to the poor;
      • vv10-13: Jesus' reply:
        • why bother this woman?
        • she's done a beautiful thing to me
        • the poor you'll always have, but not me
        • she did it to prepare me for burial
        • this will be told wherever this gospel is preached, in memory of her
