Mt 23:13-39

• vv13-29: 7 Woes (continued): Woe to you:
  
1. you hypocrites, for shutting the kingdom of heaven and not letting yourselves and others who are trying to;
   
2. you hypocrites, for converting people but making them sons of hell, twice as much as you do;
3. blind guides, for telling people only swearing by the gold in the temple and gift on the altar that counts (but not if by the temple itself and altar itself). It's the temple that makes the gold sacred, and the altar the gift;
4. you hypocrites, for ignoring the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy, and faithfulness;
5. you hypocrites, with clean outside but full of greed and self-indulgence in the inside;
6. you hypocrites, who look beautiful outside but are full of dead men's bones and everything unclean in the inside (like whitewash tombs);
7. you hypocrites, who inheret the sins of forefathers, who murdered the prophets (from the righteous Abel), and cannot escape the condemnation of hell (snakes, brood of vipers)
