- vv1-14: Parable of the wedding banquet:
- king -> God
- king's son -> Jesus
- king's servants -> prophets
- those who had been invited -> Isrealites
- the invited people
- ignored the king's servants
- one went off to the field
- another to do his business
- the rest
- seized the servants
- mistreated them
- then killed them
- the king
- was enraged and
- send his army to destroy the murders and
- burned the city
- then asked his servants to
- invite anyone found on the street
- the servants
- went out into the streets
- gathered all the people they could find (good and bad)
- the wedding hall was packed
- one of the guest did not wear wedding clothes, when the king saw him he questioned him why. The man was speechless
- the king told the attendants
- tie him hand and foot
- throw him outside
- into the darkness
- where there willbe weeping and gnashing of teeth
- vv15-22: Paying taxes to Caesar
- the Pharisees and the Herodians schemed to trap Jesus (vv15-16)
- is it right to pay taxes to Caesar or not? (v17)
- Jesus's reply was affirmative--give to Caesar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's (v21)
- they were amazed (v22)
- vv23-33: Marriage at the Resurrection
- the Sadducees -> don't believe in resurrection
- they were wrong (v29); God is not the Godof the dead but of the living (v32)
- the crowds were astonished (v33)
