- Image of John (v6):
- wore clothing made of camel's hair
- leather belt

- locusts and
- wild honey
- Compared with Jesus:
- will come after John
- Jesus is more powerful
- John is not worthy even to untie the thongs of his sandal
- will baptize with the Holy Spirit
- vv9-13: Baptism and Temptation of Jesus:
- Spirit descend on Jesus like a dove (v10). My take is there must have been some sound and wind when it happened--just like that of a dove when it lands
- The Spirit sent Jesus to the desert for 40 days (v13); he was
- tempted by Satan
- with the wild animals
- has angels attending him
- vv14-20: The Calling of the First Disciples
- v14: John was put in prison
- Simon and his brother Andrew (were casting a net):
- will make you fishers of men
- James and his brother John (were preparing their net)
- vv21-28: Jesus Drives Out an Evil Spirit
- Jesus in Capernaum (v21)
- Unlike any teachers of the law, Jesus had authority (v22)
- an evil possessed man was in the synagogue (v23)
- v25: Be quiet! Come out of him!
- The evil spirit
- shook the man violently
- came out
- with a shriek
- People were amazed; news about Jesus spread over Galilee.
