Mt 5:27-48

v29 - Gouge it out, cut it off, throw it away! Resolve.

Adultery is second after murder that Jesus address here. Does this order mean something? He certainly understands men's weaknesses.

v34 - Do not swear at all!

v37 - Simply let your 'yes' be 'yes' and your 'no,' 'no.' Anything beyond that is not only unnecessary, but from the evil one!

Being truthful is certainly a key character to personal integrity, and key factor to one's trustworthiness.

v38-48 - these are one the most famous verses in NT:

If someone strikes your right cheek (a slap?), turn to him the other also; if someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles; love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

I don't necessary grasp the true meaning of these teachings (even though I have heard a dozen explainations). Somehow I think these words should be taken literally and can be applied to action (but I never tried--never had the opportunity). Perhaps one day.
